Jessica Josiah Burke, of Leesburg, died Monday, Nov. 27, according to her mom Betheny Burke. She was 18 years old.

Affectionately called "Pia" by her mom, Jessica battled Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, a rare genetic condition, and "brought immeasurable joy and love to those around her," her mom said on a GoFundMe campaign.

"As a single parent, this devoted mom faced challenges with resilience and strength, providing unwavering care for her special daughter," Betheny writes. "Now, in the wake of an unexpected loss, we aim to alleviate the financial burden that comes with such a heartbreaking situation."

Services were being handled by the Loudoun Funeral Chapel. Visitation is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, with a funeral service to immediately follow at the funeral home.

More than $4,000 had been raised for Betheny on her GoFundMe as of Wednesday, Nov. 29. Click here to donate.
